abstract

concern about the rising prevalence of antibiotics-resistant strains of pathogenic microorganisms has been expressed in the last three decades. however, intensive studies on extracts and biologically-active compounds isolated from medicinal plants have also doubled in the last decade. as a result of paucity of knowledge and folkloric claim on the leaves effectiveness in infectious disease treatments, we aimed to determine the antimicrobial activity of essential oils and lignans present in the crude sesame radiatum leaves extracts. ethanolic, methanolic and aqueous extracts of sesame radiatum leaves were studied for their in-vitro antimicrobial activity against both gram positive and gram negative micro-organisms and yeast using agar diffusion method. the gc-ms   phytochemical screening of methanolic extract   showed the presence of carboxylic acids and phenolic groups   in essential oils especially one of the most potent antioxidants like sesamol, sesamolin and sesamin. both the methanolic and ethanolic   extracts have broad spectrum antimicrobial effect against all the tested micro-organisms except streptococcus pneumoniae, candida albicans and staphylococcus aureus   respectively,   while the aqueous extract exhibited no inhibitory effect on staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus pneumoniae   except on candida albicans . the result confirmed the folkloric claims of the antimicrobial effectiveness of locally consumed sesame leaves extracts especially against bacterial and common skin infection in many areas of the country (nigeria).

Synergistic antimicrobial activities of phytoestrogens in crude extracts of two sesame species against some common pathogenic microorganisms.

Intensive studies on extracts and biologically active compounds isolated from medicinal plants have doubled in the last decade worldwide. However, as a result of paucity of knowledge and folkloric claim on the effectiveness of sesame leaves in infectious disease treatments, we aimed to determine the synergistic antimicrobial activity of essential oils and lignans present in the crude leaves ext...

Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activities of Crude Extracts and Essential Oils of Syzygium cumini Leaves

This research highlights the chemical composition, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of essential oils and various crude extracts (using methanol and methylene chloride) from Syzygium cumini leaves. Essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).The abundant constituents of the oils were: α-pinene (32.32%), β-pinene (12.44%), trans-caryophyllene (11.19%), 1,...

detection of volatile compounds of medicinal plants with some nano-sorbents using modified or new methodologies and investigation of antioxidant activity of their methanolic extracts

in this work, a novel and fast method for direct analysis of volatile compounds (davc) of medicinal plants has been developed by holding a filament from different parts of a plant in the gc injection port. the extraction and analysis of volatile components of a small amount of plant were carried out in one-step without any sample preparation. after optimization of temperature, extraction time a...

Antibacterial and Antifungal Activities of Different Lichens Extracts

Introduction: Natural products have been the most successful source of potential drug leads. One of them is lichens, which have been used since antiquity as natural sources of drugs. The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of different extracts of the Iranian lichens in Ilam Province. Methods: The aqueous, acetone, and methanol extracts of 6 lichen spe...

some properties of fuzzy hilbert spaces and norm of operators

in this thesis, at first we investigate the bounded inverse theorem on fuzzy normed linear spaces and study the set of all compact operators on these spaces. then we introduce the notions of fuzzy boundedness and investigate a new norm operators and the relationship between continuity and boundedness. and, we show that the space of all fuzzy bounded operators is complete. finally, we define...
